Yellow and black obssesion.

January 7, 2010 by Michelle Hinckley |

Yellow is one color I would have never dreamed of ever decorating with. Conjures up memories of my dad’s 70’s style kitchen with gold/yellow formica countertops. In fact, I’m not quite that fond of the color by itself. Pair it with some black or gray and now it’s all over my house.

Promise found this cabinet at Savers for $80.00! I’m loving her addition of the gray stripes and spray painted pink horse !

Promise Tangeman (Via Simply Grove).

I’m desperately looking for the fabric used on the window shade. Gold star for the person who comes up with the source?

The fabric reminds me of a line that ikea has. I’m not sure if it’s the exact same, but they use that color scheme. You can see their fabrics online but have to buy them from in store.

I’m not crazy about yellow in anything but I did paint my upstairs bathroom yellow with blue accents and it seems to work.

So true. Im not a yellow person at all but Ive been drawn to yellow and gray all year. I didn’t want to put a drop of yellow in my house until I was sure I wouldn’t find it hideous in a short period of time but I think its offcial now. Im a fan.

Love the color scheme! I think the fabric is either Ikea or Designer’s Guild…

you get the gold star for showing that it looks great. you should have won that contest for your room…but thats just lil ole me. i want to see relatable stuff..things i can do and afford. i honestly cant relate to people spending yearly salaries on a room…thanks for all you do.

I was on a yellow kick when I first decorated my current house. But yellow with reds and all the wrong colors. Phasing it out but after seeing your photos it can work with the right colors. That first room is very fun for a beach house.

I love that zig zag stationery! And the Jimenez house in Palm Springs is definitely up there on my all-time favorite list (and it’s ALL yellow and black).
