We’ve officially made it to our 1/2 year anniversary of owning The Old Flamingo. There have been up’s and down’s but the education about being a small business owner has been priceless. Flipping furniture and filling a store with great merchandise has been the easy (and fun) part.
It’s like playing store but on an adult level.
The biggest hurdle yet has been something we didn’t factor in to our business equation heavy enough…road construction. The road in front of our store has been torn up for almost a year now. When we bought the store back in April we were told the construction had approx one month left. I should have known better. I’ve preached over and over that projects take about triple the time you estimate. The bad news is, the construction has diverted traffic and people have taken alternate routes. Not good for any of the businesses along 2300 E. The good news is it’s almost done!!!
We need your help during this time when holiday sales really count…if you, or someone you know lives in Utah, please come visit us. Skip the big box stores this holiday season and come help support our small business. There are 14 of us who have put our hearts and souls in to The Old Flamingo and now is the the time where we need our efforts to pay off. We have thousands of great gifts for those on your Christmas list. Come support the little guy!

Hi Michelle, Congratulations on your store. I have pinned one of your furniture make overs. I have been catching up with blog reading and hope you can find a moment to answer a few questions about the “new” bed. Did you order a boxspring to go with the foam bed? Are you still enjoying an indentation free nights’ sleep?
Thanks!

I’m loving the new bed. I’ll be honest it took some getting used to. It feels a lot different switching from a traditional bed to a foam bed. Now that I’m used to it I LOVE it. I look forward to getting in to bed at night. I didn’t order the box spring no. We’re using the box spring from our old bed. As far as indentations, I don’t see any however, I do notice that where we sleep feels more broken in to than the middle of the bed where no one sleeps. Almost like breaking in a pair of new shoes…is just a little softer than the middle. Does that make sense?
