Silver or white?

July 16, 2009 by Michelle Hinckley |

I posted about these old lamps my mom gave me for my birthday a while back.
Here they are again.
While at Home Depot, this can of metallic spray paint caught my eye.

Here are the results. I thought it would turn out more reflective like the lid of the can.

I sprayed the other lamp with plain old white.

Now your input…
Which do you like better?
Silver or white?

I like the white because if you got a cool shade it would really pop!!

I am clearly not an expert like you so I’m not sure my opinion is worth anything, but I find myself liking the white. Normally I’d be more of a silver gal, but the white looks very classy.

Yet again you’ve impressed me with another beautiful project and your mad decorating skills!

Thanks for your comment and input today! I definitely vote for the white on your lamp. I think the reason the chrome didn’t work was because of the texture/design of the lamp. I’ve used the chrome on flat surfaces before and seemed to work pretty well.
    Thanks!

White all the way. with black shades it would be stunning.

I like both – I think it would depend on where you plan on putting the lamps and the style of the rest of the room.
The silver looks pretty amazing but is probably one that you’d tire of quicker.

    Hi Michelle,

both stands turned out looking great. What colour/design is the top going to be you wanna use with the lamps? I think that matters when deciding of which colour the stands should have. Are you gonna use them in your newly decorated bedroom?

You have a great taste for colours and looks. You’ll make the “right” decision ;-).

I think the white is cool. And very now. The silver is a little too traditional for me.

you silly girl you are the expert…if you are going to put it in your newly decorated master definitely the white because i think you need bright colors to contrast the darker walls!

I unfortunately can’t remember whos blog I read it on, but she recommended using chrome car spray paint, from the pictures I remember the silver turned out much nicer (and more like the lid) than regular silver spray paint.

If you buy the Chrome spray paint from the Automotive section (made for cars), you will get the mirrored reflective finish that you desired.
I’m a new reader who was just checking out your blog for the first time and thought I would say hello!
