Sick.

April 10, 2009 by Michelle Hinckley |

This picture has nothing to do with this post but isn’t it blog protocol to post a pic with every post?

This week I got the flu. I mean I REALLY GOT THE FLU! The week previous my two sons had it and were now on the mend while I was on the start. I did nothing but lay. If matters couldn’t get any worse…Jake went away on a business trip for the same two days I was completely out of commission.

From my place on the sofa I watched my boys go completely comatose as the TV was on from sun up till sun down. I watched my 1 year old walk right up to my 4 year old and whack him on the head with a light saber sword and I did nothing. I watched my 1 year old’s diaper sag lower and lower and lower until I could see his little crack peek out the top. I watched my 4 year old tip-toe in to the kitchen and sneak cookies then eat them behind the door like a little chipmunk and I just rolled over.

While I was laying there witnessing all these crimes I felt tremendous guilt but had no energy to do anything about it. Now that I’m feeling a bit better I look back and realize they probably enjoyed having a day without the mommy police enforcing rules. That’s my justification anyway…

P.S. I’m sorry to all you who I haven’t returned phone calls or stood you up on visiting teaching appointments…you’ll be hearing from my sorry self soon.

When Mommy is sick, I think it’s perfectly fine for them to simply survive. Glad you’re feeling better!

Don’t these near death experiences give you a renewed appreciation for your spirituality…?
Nice to hear you survived this little test of life.

Oh, I love your mommy confessions, so I can totally relate. Very sorry to your husband was gone. I had the flu myself the past couple of days, so I don’t know how you got through it. Hoping you don’t get sick again for a long time!
