Rug conundrums.

May 21, 2012 by Michelle Hinckley |

I’ve spent WAY too much time online and running from store to store looking for a suitable area rug for our living room. I’m looking for a very specific size large which isn’t standard. I also want a plane-jane rug that isn’t shaggy (I don’t like to see an outline of my footprint when I step on it) and a solid color. Last of all I want it affordable.
Tall order, I know.
So here’s what I’ve narrowed it down to:

1. Crate and Barrel’s Baxter rug. Great look and feel but much more than I wanted to spend.

2. Restoration Hardware’s Shadow Stripe Rug.
9X12 is the largest size available and I need a slightly bigger size.
3. Stainmaster’s “WundaWeve Comfortably Chic”” carpet. This is actually carpet which would have to be special ordered then bound to my specific size. It looks very similar to Restoration Hardware’s Rug but I can get it in the exact size I want then bound all for less money and it comes in several great color options.
The thing I like best is I could actually bring the samples home and view them in my space. I was going to go for the cream but once I saw it my home’s lighting it was grey all the way.

I

also found this other option.
I wasn’t going for pattern but the grey in the right upper corner is really tempting me.

Lake Bala by Royal Dutch Carpets.
It’s very similar to David Hicks’ famous La Florentina pattern that is so popular right now.

I’ll keep you posted.

Do you have more information on the last carpet/rug you show? Brand (it’s hard to make out…), pattern, where you found it? I think it would make an awesome rug! πŸ™‚

That La Fiorentina takeoff is amazing. I think the geometric would read as neutral, and I adore that pattern! Good luck!

The Lake Bala geometric is very stylish and will look great as long as its placement is not too close to fight with the stencil tree pattern you recently placed on your wall. The shadow stripes are very understated – really perfect. Here’s the pivotal question – what is your focal point going to be in this room?

Love the Lake Bula. It will be fun to see what you pick.

Don’t get the Crate and Barrel one! I bought this one for my dining room and 1 year later it is still shedding.

With kids around a pattern might look better with the inevitable spill and stains that seem to follow them around!

I love the pattern option too. It wouldn’t have been what I’d go for at first either. But once you see it – LOVE!

OMG! I am exactly in the same conundrum as you!!!!

I LOVE the RH shadow stripped rug in white. And now, more than ever, I am thinking of really getting it since I saw the actual thing ( saw it at an “Ann Taylor” store of all places in the color you want!)!

It’s super gorgeous and can easily go with anything, the texture and the velvety feel & look of it is enough “pattern”I think for a living room so it will NEVER CLASH with your patterned pillow or arm chairs!

Good luck on your search! I for one posted about this dilemma in my blogpost : http://buhayatbahay.blogspot.com/2012/05/whats-wrong-with-this-space.html

Though I never mentioned my options yet on this post, you’ll see why I need to make a switcharoo! πŸ™‚

Pottery Barn just came out with some new ones similar to these. Check them out too!

Love the options. Have you considered trying a local flooring store to see if they would sell you a remnant piece of end cut of carpet. You will get high quality for a discounted price and just have then bond the edges for you!

Patterned grey looks great. I could just save so much time and energy by having you come over to remodel for us I love your ideas.

    Anonymous,
Google “Gray” and “Grey”. Both are actually right. Thanks for the spelling lesson though.
