Reupholstering furniture with Spruce.

November 14, 2013 by Michelle Hinckley |

In my dream life I know how to write in beautiful calligraphy, I can sing like Lea Michele and I know how to upholster furniture so it doesn’t scream “DIY”.
In real life my handwriting is completely straight up and down, my shower tolerates my singing and I have a basement full of hoarded furniture that needs to be reupholstered and is collecting dust.
Can’t win em all.
But apparently, Amanda Brown, author of the new book SPRUCE, is convinced that I CAN learn to upholster furniture like a pro.

book-600x600

After running a very successful and chic upholstery / furniture store she has written a book on the techniques she uses.

Spruce.

For a while I was collecting several pieces of garage sale and Craigslist furniture that I thought had really cool lines with dreams of one day upholstering them.
After massacring a few furniture pieces in my attempt to reupholster them I finally took them to a professional to which he charged 4 times what I bought for the chair so I stopped collecting upholstery pieces.  Amanda’s book showed me the exact directions as to where I went wrong after skinning a chair and couldn’t put it back together.

Check out her story:

Epitome of cool.

I can’t wait to get my hands on this book. Thanks for sharing! Btw, sorry for leaving that super long, somewhat confusing message the other day about making the upholstered bed frame. I finally updated that post on my blog; hopefully it’s a bit more helpful. Take care!
