Salt Lake has had a lot of rain in the past few days. During a recent storm, we happened to be sitting on our backyard patio and noticed the water wasn’t coming down the rain gutter spout but rather a curtain of water was coming off the roof seemingly by-passing the rain gutter totally. The sheet of water that we were seeing was actually caused by clogged gutters. My husband climbed a ladder after the storm and pulled out several fist fulls of leaves, pine needles and debris. He normally cleans the gutters out once in the spring and once in the fall but apparently we need to be doing the more often.
Home Advisor is quickly becoming my go-to source for home maintenance questions and as a great reference for helping me find home maintenance professionals in my area.
They have even created several video clips that give great advice on maintaining your home.
I learned that clogged gutters aren’t just a nuisance. Water not properly draining down the gutters can “harm your foundation and create a wet basement” thus making you swear a lot. Plus, if we install a gutter guard we don’t have to worry about climbing a ladder several times a year to clean.
If you (have Vertigo and) don’t want to get up on a ladder or need help installing a guard to protect your gutters from debris you can log on to Home Advisor and they’ll connect you with a licensed professional that can help you (here).
P.S. Last time I blogged about Home Advisor I spoke about their quiz to help you determine how knowledgeable you are about home maintenance issues.
Have you taken your quiz yet? What was your grade? Are you more enlightened after having taken the quiz?
