Potty talk.

May 23, 2012 by Michelle Hinckley |

Oh, yes.
We’re going there.
Because I’m in love.
With my toilet.
I said my toilet.
Check it…
I realize there are a lot more exciting things going on in blogland then photos of my potty but this toilet has saved me 7 minutes a day…that’s 49 minutes a week not having to clean so much (and Kohler isn’t even paying me to say that, but I’ll take any offers). Β Here’s how.
It’s called the Saile by Kohler and it’s all one piece
which means no crack at the tank base for that yellow stuff to hide out.
Next, check out the base of the toilet.
What’s missing?
Most toilet’s look something like this:
I’m certain the person who invented a toilet to look like this never had to clean it.
Nothing wrong with all those pipes, nooks and crannies if a person knows how to properly tinkle.
However, I have not one male but four in my home.
Props to me for having successfully taught them all (except one) how to hit the Cheerio in the water but their aim ain’t so good at 3am.
I can wipe this whole thing down in 1 minute flat because of the streamline base!
It also has a quick release seat. You simply flip the two flippy thingies up, give it a good tug and the whole seat comes off in 6 seconds. Β I take this thing off every morning and clean it.
The seat is also a slow-close seat which means my men can slam the thing down as hard as they want and it takes at least 5 seconds for it to fully close.
The other thing my men think is super cool about the Saile is it has two buttons.
Right for #1 (.8 gallons), left for #2 (1.6 gallons).

I can appreciate this focus on your toilet! My last apartment had a slow-closing lid toilet and dual flush. It was a dream. Have you been to Japan? You would love the toilets there with the warming seats and all.

It’s awesome! I once saw a teeny tiny studio on Apartment Therapy with just the bowl coming out of the wall (like commercial toilets) and thought, whoa……..so easy to clean. Color me jealous!

I have 1 “potty trained” boy, one that will be potty training soon and another boy in utero, plus my husband. I HATE cleaning the toilet. This is so simple and stream-lined and no crevices! I am super jealous πŸ™‚

SOLD. I can’t believe how stupid toilets are to clean. So obviously invented by someone (a man?) who has never had to squeeze between a toilet and a cabinet to get at the nasty base.

Um, AWESOME! Yes, I can get excited about toilets too. I’m always buying new toilet seats because they can’t seem to not aim for the hinges in the middle of the night and they just don’t come clean easily.

ooooooh … you are not only lucky but blessed … it’s not so much the actual toilet cleaning (the bowl, the seat, etc.) but the bottom … how can i say *yuuuuucccckkkkkkkk* so it’s very clear … it’s just me n hubbs now, but the dust and dirt and whoknowswhatelse collects there is obscene and horrid … i need me one o these, for sure …. darlene

I have to agree with anonymous. I’ll do a little extra work cleaning if it means the difference between a $200 toilet or a $1,000 toilet. It better do a LOT more for me for $1,000. I do have a regular toilet from Costco with dual buttons and I love using less water when it’s just a onesie.

I also have 4 boys in my home and my rule is, “peeing standing up is a privilege, not a right. You don’t get to do it until you have proven you can do it properly” πŸ™‚

I need that. I have 3 men in the house. I’m guessing it’s a little too spendy for me though.

On a sidenote – I remember you saying that you were bummed that Picnik is gone but did you know that PicMonkey may be even better? Not sure if you’ve mentioned it but there’s no charge, no sign-up and has all the same features. You’ll like it if you don’t already know about it.

Michelle- You are one lucky girl. Would love to have that toilet! I live in a house with 3 “men”. I guess hitting the “mark” is hard! I keep threatening to make everyone sit down!! I too hate to clean my toilet-but it is sooo needed! I would love to have this toilet-thanks for sharing and good luck with it.

I completely appreciate the magic of this crapper. My family is in the plumbing products business and between that and living with 4 men myself too much of my brain space is occupied by the toilet. Our boys’ bathroom not only has a traditional-style porcelain throne, but also an older-model flush system that is very LOUD! This may be our next stop on the potty express. Love the detachable seat!

Oh, I need a toilet like that! I hate cleaning the curvy base of ours! My son is being taught to pee sitting down for now, so I don’t have to deal with more mess. I figure his daddy can be in charge of the training to stand up.

It is so pretty (smile). Honestly, I don’t clean toilets. Told hubby (house of only one boy) that I just couldn’t even deal. Though I bet he’d rather the investment in this potty than paying a housekeeper if it ever came to that (smile).

Thanks for the great potty post. I love how you can just take off the seat and clean the base easily. Even though I’m the only guy in our house this toilet would come in handy, haha. πŸ™‚

weird enough to say but thats a really nice toilet! and this is my first time visiting your blog and i love it so far, its great! Is the toilet the type that’s water saving? If so, have you thought about using water saving faucets as a replacement to normal faucets?

I can totally appreciate your love for your toilet. Just the other day, I was wishing that I had a blog so that I could tell the interwebs about my love for my toilet seat. You see, I have the same seat in our home and with three men/ boys who sprinkle tinkle from time-to-time it’s a complete breeze to clean. And the slow close seat? Ah, I love not hearing a toilet seat or lid slam on the bowl. It’s bliss. I’m so glad that we could share this moment. xox

We have the 2-button flush and the slow-close seat, but the flippy things to pull the seat off? I NEED THOSE!!! Because I swear my boys get their pee everywhere but in the water. I mean, I guess YAY for it not being in their pants, but all over the toilet and floor?? Yeah, that’s gross. I really, really like this toilet!
