Painted Red Side Table.

November 4, 2016 by Michelle Hinckley |

Ever since we adopted The Old Flamingo our house has been a constant revolving door of new projects.
They grace our home briefly then are out the door to bring lovely to someone else’s home.
My latest score was this three tiered side table.
It was in good shape and quality made but tired and worn.
Nothing like a fresh coat of paint to bring it back to life.

I first gave it a quick sand and also rubbed it with some Liquid Sander which takes the gloss and shine off making it easier for primer and paint to adhere.

For the paint I chose Maxx Gloss Candy Apple Red.  I have gained quite an affinity for this paint as of late.
I love me some chalk paint because it’s the easiest to work with but I don’t love the flat finish on every piece.
This Maxx Gloss is WAY glossy which gives pieces more of a modern feel.  Plus it wipes down so well.

I’ve found I can dump it right in my HomeRight Finish Max sprayer without thinning it and self-levels really well.  I also used my spray shelter so I don’t spray my entire patio with paint.

before-after

I broke out the big daddy of primers… Sherwin Williams Extreme Bond Primer.  This stuff will stick to anything…even smooth surfaces that don’t have great sticking properties.
I like to use a sprayer because: 1) It goes on quicker. 2) I hate brush marks 3) The finish is so much smoother.

Definitely a pop of color.

For sale for $125.

I also got wild and crazy with this vintage ornate mirror.

It’s large and HEAVY.  Would look fantastic in a powder room. $68.

Last but not least…I’m selling this lovely sofa.

We bought a new one for our basement which I’ll share with you soon.  It’s in fab condition and includes a custom made white slipcover.

I actually have a two identical sofas with two identical custom made slipcovers.  This house just isn’t big enough for the two of them.

Happy painting.

The crab used for the staging of the red table is fun! Did you pick him along your travels?
