Our patio can’t quite seem to compete in appearances with the rest of the house. It’s full of bikes, popsicle sticks, garden tools and a crumbling ceiling. I’m very particular about indoor rules but those don’t apply to the back patio and a result, the patio looks like a dumping ground.
That’s all about to change. I’ve been really pumped about fixing up the patio since the weather has warmed. The main thing we use the patio for is eating. I love eating outside for the ambiance but mainly because I can squirt the floor off with a hose instead of mopping it. Unfortunately, I’m not loving a whole lot of the outdoor furniture I’m finding. It all looks like…well…patio furniture. I don’t know what I would rather it look like? Just not what it looks like. I guess I want my patio to look like a room that is just an extension of my home…but outside. Oye, my head hurts. At any rate, here are a few things I’m kind of actually liking. Keep in mind the chairs and table aren’t actually meant for outdoors but…we’ll see about that.
Operation Backyard Patio Makeover is officially underway!

Cost Plus World Market has an outdoor chair that is very similar to this one–go look! And they come in a bunch of different colors–I saw it in bright yellow at the store yesterday–fun!

Just curious, are you planning to stain your concrete? We have a carport which officially becomes the “side porch” between April and October. I have always thought that staining it would bring it to outdoor room level but have been scared to try it. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

I have been considering a few options…stamped concrete, staining, painting…just can’t decide but I’ll be sure to share pics. Please, oh please, share your pics when you make your decision too! ๐

Patios and outdoor entertaining can be a challenge. It becomes a balancing act between creating an atmosphere which is conducive to dining outdoors and not putting too much clutter into the environment. The elements you have pictured are wonderful โ a generously sized table and stackable chairs. I love using candles and hurricane globes to create an inviting evening setting. It is also helpful to have planters filled with flowers, such as sunflowers, which keep the bugs away.
I look forward to viewing your results!

I am curious about those curtains because we just had the exterior of our home painted in gorgeous southwest colors…think Sedona Rock oranges/reds with 3 shades of eggplant for the accents and trims! I am thinking now of adding curtains, and those sheery white ones with grommets are enticing me!! Thanx for sharing all that you do Michelle….blessings always and sweet aromas ….. ๐

I completely understand! We managed to get deals on our chairs via Craigslist but can’t find a table we like for under 1k. Seriously. So we’re gonna be makin our own once we fix up the deck! Good luck with your DIY adventure. I’m loving those chairs!

The easiest way to dress up any space is with a cute rug – whether it be for the inside of your home or the outside. I just bought an adorable chevron rug at http://4-chairs.com/ which has really livened up my drab room. That’s all it took. Good luck and please post before and after pics! ๐

I’ll have to check out that website. I’m shopping for a rug…thanks for the tip!

I really like how you have taken the idea of a simple stackable chair and added some serious style to it. Those chairs would look good in any situation.
