Open House.

August 8, 2011 by Michelle Hinckley |

This weekend I visited the most stunning and dramatic home renovation I’ve ever seen.
The contractor was Tiek Built Homes and the interior was designed and decorated by the lovely
Caitlin Creer.
I could have moved right in but sadly, it wasn’t for sale.
It went from this:

This is house has some really great architectural elements, but the design looks rushed. The quality of the interior design should match the craftsmanship of the house. On much of the furniture, the scale is off. The window seat needs more pillows. The oval cocktail table in the main room isn’t a good fit. It seems to float in the room instead of work together with the rest of furniture in the room. The yellow sconces in the bathroom are much too big (they look ridiculous). The chair in the boy’s room looks squished in the corner and the pillows on the bed look sloppy. The phrase “It’s all in the details” is really true and I feel like the designer missed on a lot of the finishing touches. It’s tough to work under a deadline. I’ve been in the business awhile. I have always appreciated constructive criticism. The takeaway from each project is invaluable, and I hope that’s how the designer feels about this project. I wish her luck in the future.

I just love your house. I found myself pinning several photos! I was particularly inspired by the master bath where you have the marble counters on the wood stained cabinets. We have similar wood cabinets in our master bath but cheaped out when we were building, and put cultured marble on instead, assuming we’d upgrade later. I was thinking I’d also need to paint the cabinets, but now I think I’ll put the marble tops on, live with the cabinets as-is for a while, and hopefully be happy!

Just found your awesome blog and came across this house. I went to that open house since the main guy worked on my sister’s home. I LOOOOVED it. I also love what I’ve seen of your arizona home. It’s so similar to my style..which I don’t find everyday.

Thanks to running the map photo through tineye.com, I was able to find out that the map is from Pottery Barn Kids, but apparently from a few years ago.
