New / Old table.

February 4, 2010 by Michelle Hinckley |

Behold.
The Saarinen Table by Knoll.
Sleek pedestal base.
Clean, contemporary marble top.
Price: $1300-$5500.
See here.

Here is my version of my own Saareinen round table.
Pretty weak attempt.
OK, It’s not really the same at all except for the marble top.
Although I do love this table that I found at a antique store a while back, it’s kind of small for a breakfast table. You can’t tell from the picture but the marble is really yellow-y and has an even more yellow stain in the middle. It looks off with all the stark white shades in this little room.
Ah well, a tight budget can’t be choosey…or can it?

A few months ago I was in Bookman’s. Ever heard of it? It’s a place where you can sell, trade and buy books, music, magazines, games. In short, a second hand bookstore (run by hippies and skaters that have piercings in every part of their face and body). I was stunned to see this oogly marble coffee table for sale. I snatched it up, took it apart and switched out the existing top with this marble one.

Larger area to eat and perfect shade of Carrera Marble.
(Insert happy dance!)

I love your version! The combination of the sleep marble top and the more ornate base is a great contrast, especially with your modern chairs.

what a score, that is a gorgeous piece of marblw. I have an antique black marble table in my entry and I actually had a marble guy offer me almost 3 times what I had paid for the table itself. Come to find out the marble is no longer quaurried. you never know what you will find and you found a beauty. Kathysue

A girl after my own heart! I just posted a project with a smaller marble table top. I always keep my eyes open for them!! Love what you did with it! I already adore the curved wall, the stripes, and the iron base. This just makes it even more perfect!

I love your entry!!! When I fist saw the photos on Brooklyn Limestones I thought it was a high end designer room. The stripes in the round room are amazing.

I just found your blog from another blog that was featured in Style at Home.
My grandparents had a white pedestal table with the egg shaped chairs in their kitchen forever. When my grandpa sold his house, someone offered to buy the table and chairs for $150 from him. He thought it was a great deal, but I think they got a steal!! He had no idea what he had.
    Your table looks great! 🙂
