My new sunburst mirror.

September 17, 2009 by Michelle Hinckley |

Sunburst mirrors are all the rage. I keep thinking they might start to loose popularity but they are only gaining momentum. One would be perfect above my bed in my new room.
(Via Made By Girl)

(Via Desire to Inspire)

(Nate Burkus)
Problem is they come with a hefty price tag.
I found this one at Home Goods. Wrong color and too small. Price, $29.00…SOLD!

Time to DIY it up a bit.
BBQ Bamboo skewers at the grocery store: $0.97.

Glue gun + one hour + burned fingers.

Black spray paint first.

Then LIGHT coat of silver.

Instant scale!

I had to post this right away! I love love it. I think sunburs mirrors are classic. I have one above my bed too, it was a tacky tacky gold thing from Ross, and I spray painted it hammered silver. Of course I didn’t take pictures!

Looks amazing. Reminds me of when I spray painted my hideous white chandelier with a hammered copper paint and made it look brand new again!

If you are still looking. Try Michael’s Craft Stores. I recently bought one for about $50.00, after my coupon. It’s nice and big and is beautiful above my bed. They had three different styles to choose from. They are usually located in the seasonal home decor section (august-december).

    Ok-
So I just found your blog and you might be one of the most creative person that I have ever seen on a blog!
The bamboo skewers are just the most clever idea ever. You took something and really made it your own. I can’t wait to look at everything else on your blog- that bedroom make over really caught my eye and I am loving the grey horizontal stripes in another room. Like I said- I just found you- seems that I have a lot to catch up on. Looking forward to reading more.
