Kitchen is shaping up nicely.
Cabinets are done and the carpenter has been pestering me for my white paint selection
(which I still haven’t chosen).
Hardware has been selected from Restoration Hardware.

Faucet selections from Kohler (all in chrome).
(All of these look much better in person. Pictures don’t do them justice).
First choice: The Torq.
Love the modern, sleek lines.
No fussiness to this kitchen jewelry.
A splurge, so it’s out.
My second choice is the Purist.
Less razzle dazzle statement then the Torque but still sleek and modern (and a better price point).
My third choice: the Simplice.
Doesn’t “wow” me, doesn’t offend me.
Most budget friendly (which at this point, makes it very appealing).
Then we’ve got this monster of a sink called the Vault which will be undermounted.
It’s so large I could practically bath in it myself.
I can finally fit my pots and pans in all the way.
So far everything is pretty safe.
White cabinets, chrome hardware and faucet, stainless steal appliances.
Fingers crossed on a black soapstone island and carrera marble to top the cabinets along the wall.
Do you sense a classic black and white scheme?
Then we come to lighting.
I’ve got a thing for lighting that makes a statement.
I have this plan up my sleave to attempt a DIY chandy for over the dinner table (stay tuned for that one).
I’ve always loved this library sconce for over the kitchen window and sink.
I’m hoping I can find it in an antique black.
Then there’s my island pendant lighting dilemma.
In my months of searching I really haven’t found anything that makes me dance.
Keeping budget at the forefront of my mind I’m considering two of these (on the right).

They are simple, have visual interest, they don’t steal the show.
However, I recently spied this in the Nov./Dec. issue of Lonny and I immediately started to dance.
I can get it in chrome to match all the rest of the chrome in the kitchen but it doesn’t have the same luster as the old brass finish (below).
SOOOO, mixing metal finishes…
Faux Paux?
Faux Paux?
Care to weigh in?

I say go for the brass. I have an antique brass chandy in my kitchen and I am about to change my knobs to polished nickel too. Look at Edie’s new kitchen at Life in Grace blog and you will feel better. It’s fun to mix it up.
Good luck!
Mix away! Different finishes are perfect together! Also BRASS all the way!
I say mix it up. If you keep the sink, cabinent hardware (chrome) in the same family and then keep your light fixtures (brass) in the same family, I don’t think you can go wrong. I know I had the worst time picking out paint colors for my home, then trying to find lights, hardware, fixtures–it got to be overwhelming. Lots of luck.
Go for it! Metals are all neutrals in my opinion. I have stainless/brushed nickel mixed with bronze/copper and I love it!
As long as it looks balanced, I say mix, mix, mix. If the cabinet hardware, faucet, door knobs, etc are all silver/chrome, and your light is the only different finish, it might stand out so add something that compliments it for balance.
My friend has an amazing home (my fave) and she mixed the metals. It looks great and stylish. I say go for it!
I’m not sold. I’m all for mixing an antique light fixture in with modern decor but I think it at least needs to stay in the warm/cool family. I recently saw a fixture that resembles your pick but in the same cool color family. And it’s only $48.

That’s probably what I would do. Hey, you asked!
We have this problem also. it is hard to keep in the budget and have all the finishes match. This pendent is so beautiful. Home Depot has added a large new selection of pendent lighting to their line up of lighting..
I say Mix. Keeps it interesting and not all uniform looking.
Mix it up sister!!!! I would find another way to add in more brass though…maybe in your DIY chandy? THat way the pendants do not stick out as the only brass item:)
Good Luck!
I’m a big fan of return policies, so maybe try both?! 🙂 But I’m with almost everyone else…mix it up! I love your picks!
once a lifetime ago I was studying Interior Design and this was a question of mine…90% of us agreed that mixing is the way to go to make things interesting.
as long as you love it, it will always be in style!
I struggle with this too but I say go for it! Yay. I think you can still mix well without clashing!
I think you can mix metals.
However I think they have to be in the same color temperature..
Like if you do a cool colored chrome, you need to do a cooler color brass…
Just as long as you aren’t mixing cool and warm colors.
(I think this could also be done, its just MUCH MUCH harder to do!)
That is just my two cents 🙂

mix it! i did brushed nickel and oil rubbed bronze…it looks fine. Although I never would have thought so until I tried it! Can’t wait to see what you do!
I say go for it!!! its going to look gorgeous!
I have actually seen a few kitchens with a mix of chrome and brass lately, and I think it looks great (as long as you have more than just one of each.. get something else brass to tie in the light). I really love the sconce you picked out- it’s gorgeous. And that HUGE kitchen sink looks dreamy! It’s going to be a beautiful kitchen, can’t wait to see it!
Mix it. The first faucet with the separate hot and cold handle would be a deal breaker for me. Hard to get temps right, pain in the butt if you have messy hands. I would go for 2 or 3. What color are you you doing the light? Blue would look fab with the chrome- just saying.
can’t wait to see this kitchen, sounds like it is going to be beautiful! i think it’s ok to mix metals, i’m a big fan of on putting things you love in to a space, and i think that there are ways to make different metals work.
Everything you are doing here is clean – uncluttered – with a specific eye for line and a fluid statement.
I would not mix.
Of course you can – clearly many do. I would not be among them.
The paints – please consider choosing your ONE favorite shade of white. Take it back to B.M. and have them cutomize the other two shades of white using this one favorite. This will permit you start each shade from the same base.
Definitely brass. Will be beautiful and very warm. Without brass, would be far less intersting and possibly a little chilly. Can’t wait to see your new kitchen…will be lovely I’m sure.
I love that knob, and I really love the aubrey pulls, but you already knew that.
We finally got our cabinets painted! We used SW Duck White and really love it.

forgot to mention that I like mixed metals, otherwise its a bit too matchy matchy like a builder would do.
Love your selection of hardware especially the Torq faucet. I also love the pendant you picked as well.
Everything is so stylish, total love!

not sure I would mix.
Unrelated to the mixed metals discussion, but I have the Simplice faucet (not the single-hole, though) in my kt and really like the shape and function.
