Milk glass.

October 17, 2012 by Michelle Hinckley |

I love milk glass and have a few pieces in my small collection.
I can remember my grandma having a beautiful milk glass vase so now whenever I see other pieces, it says
“Grandma Chic” (in a good way).
Milk glass pieces have such a feminine elegance to them that you don’t see today’s pieces.

This weekend I wandered in to a cute little store at Gardner Village that sells all kinds of cute vintage and antique pieces.  My eye fell upon 5 milk glass glasses for only $10.00!  Seemed to good to be true so I bought them right away.  When I brought them home and was washing them up I found another price tag on the bottom of one of the glasses that said $45.00.  Maybe I scored them right when they went on sale?

I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to use them for.
So far some roses have found their temporary home in one.
The other four are being used to hold our toothbrushes and paste.

A much better replacement than the hot cocoa mugs we were using.
Do you have any milk glass pieces? Do you use them or are they just for display?

i used to have a few milk glass candy dishes that i loved…. but, they were usurped by my mother to add to her collection when i moved out of college! i think it is time to re-claim them…

Love Milk glass. Mine are all in storage right now since I don’t have space, but I can’t wait to dust them off soon.

I have a hobnail goblet that I use as a toothbrush holder and some cups as vases. I also have some that I use for the loose change I find around the house. I like to use the mugs for cocoa.

I am not collecting rare 1700’s milk glass that has a transparency, mine are all opaque so I use them and not just for display.

I love milk glass! Anytime I see a piece at Goodwill or a yard sale, I pick it up right away!

I love milk glass! In fact, I have the exact same vase from the second pic in your post (the one holding the tulips). It was my mom’s & I remember her using all the time. When I discovered she was getting rid of it a few years ago, I snatched it up and it’s usually my go-to vase these days. Love your latest find!

I love this post! I too remember milk glass at grandma’s house. Mine lined hers up along the top of her kitchen cabs. Years ago she sold her entire collection at a barn sale, to one owner. She found out shortly after that I had been collecting it, went & bought it all back and sent it to me for my b-day. I now proudly display & use the pieces in my home. Even more special to me now.

I (kinda) DIY’d all my table centerpieces for my wedding with milk glass. My mom and I collected a bunch of all shapes and sizes for a year and then passed them off to our florist to do all the arrangements. They turned out super cute. I love the simplicity of the ones you found.

I adore milk glass! We used a ton of milk glass vases for centerpieces for our wedding and now I have a bunch of them in a collection on my mantle. They make me happy!

I have been inlove with milk glass for awhile and my china cabinet is starting to be filled by just them. It is so versatile I agree and so clean and easy to go around with everything and anywhere!

I discovered and fell in love with white milk glass years ago when I started thrifting…now I have a collection going…wish I had a glass cabinet to display them, but they get used at holiday time a lot.

I love milk glass! A few months ago I was trying to find milk glass knobs for an empire dresser I was salvaging and had a horrible time finding enough. I ended up selling the dresser without knobs and keeping the few I had found for myself. So bad…but it’s really hard to get your hands on solid milk glass hardware and it’s gorgeous! Great finds. I have 2 milk glass vases with a very contemporary look that I adore too.

I love the simple look of milk glass. It reminds me of a more innocent time in history. My mother has several pieces that I hope to one day have. I especially love the bud vases with the polka dot design. Great collection Michelle…oh and score on the 5 glasses for $10 !!!!

Oh my gosh, this cracks me up. My Grandmother had a bunch of milk glass and she always said that I would get her china and my sister would get all her milk glass (because my Grandma considered my sis a klutz)I have been dieing to get my hands on that collection. I’d rather have that than the china. Now to try and convince my sister to give it up…aah aha ha…my sneaky mind is coming up with a plan ~Rosanne

I love milk glass, I actually have that piece holding the red tulips that you have in your pictures. I use my small collection all the time. The vase I use for flowers, I also have a small tray that I use to hold keys on my console table.
