Mid-century bench makeover.

June 19, 2012 by Michelle Hinckley |

Yesterday I showed off my DIY wall shelf.
Love the mirror, love the shelf but it felt a bit top heavy and bare.
I found these mid century benches on Craigslist in Tucson a while back.
They turned out to be the perfect scale as a seat to put shoes on.
Problem was they were in rough condition.
The wood was scratched and broken.
I envisioned replacing them with marble but I couldn’t find any tile that would fit.
I contacted Stephanie from MGS By Design (favorite stone fabricator) and they cut some Carrera Marble to fit perfectly.
Come on in.
Have a “moment”.
Take a load off.
Update:
Cali is making great progress in her recovery.
It’s not been without several physical and emotional hurdles but she’s a fighter.
A fundraiser has been organized to help with the medical expenses this Saturday.
There are also other donation options if you’re interested.
Go here for further details.
We can’t thank you enough for all your support!

Those are just perfect for that spot! What a lucky find and what a great idea with the marble. I’m loving that little space!

They look great with the marble. What a good idea! Are they sturdy enough to sit on? I’ve seen these before and always thought they were side tables! lol

I love that you used marble and didn’t just cover it up with fabric – genius. Just pinned this to my DIY board. Thanks for sharing!

Where did you find the wood slating that you used on the walls? So good to hear that Cali is doing well.

Great work! i love how it looks =)
I love how the bench has a cube/geometric touch to it, classy, modern, but still has that vintage feel
