Master Bedroom Reveal.

October 7, 2014 by Michelle Hinckley |

Three+ years people!
Three+ years the Mr. and I have lived in this bedroom:

Home Depot Before

Not anymore!
Goodbye pops of yellow from our last master bedroom.

You may remember, I got a little ambitious and sold our bed prematurely to make room for the DIY one that was in my head. Then a year went by with our bed on the floor before we actually got around to making it.ย  Picture that people.

Lovely! Been in my house 6 years. The mattress isn’t on the floor, but it certainly doesn’t look pulled together like your room. Thanks for sharing.

We must think alike because I did my room very close to this. I just can’t seem to find that elusive green coverlet!

    • Michelle Hinckley says

      October 7, 2014 at 3:23 pm

I actually bought that coverlet over a year or more ago. I haven’t been able to find it anymore. I did notice they had one in the same print but in navy. This was maybe a month ago. Maybe check ebay? Good luck!

Wow! Michelle, your master bedroom looks absolutely stunning, refreshing and well put together. I can’t believe you DIY that gorgeous bed (is that velvet?) and that chic feature wall (it looks flawless, I thought it was wallpaper!). You did a marvelous job. Such a fabulous, stylish, gender neutral master bedroom, your hubby must be so thrilled!

P/S: I am in the process of making over our guest bedroom. Please come and take a look if you like.

Thanks Jessie! The bed is actually navy linen. We’re loving it. Keep asking why it took me so long.

P.S. I’ve been following your room and it is crazy good! That bed feels so stately and elegant. And the blue wall square…I die! Kudos!

I pretty much want you to come to my house and do this exact same thing! Totally love this space! And now I am back to the board and baton wall going down my steps again! It just looks so lovely and makes we want to curl up and read a book or something! I must know how you made your bed! My husband and I are considering buying something like that but if it isn’t “that” difficult I might be able to convince him to DIY! Unless you wanna come to Iowa and help me (wink wink-lol)

    • Michelle Hinckley says

      October 7, 2014 at 3:22 pm

Thanks Kate. DIY instructions will be coming soon on the bed. Book me a ticket and let’s get to work on your house! ๐Ÿ˜‰

THIS is what good things are made of!! I like the attempts at adding yellow things in the before photos but you have truly nailed it in all of the after photos. I love that none of it is super matchy matchy, it all just goes beautifully together. Fantastic job!!

    • Michelle Hinckley says

      October 7, 2014 at 8:01 pm

      Thanks Lauren.
The pops of yellow was actually from our last master bedroom in AZ. We got rid of a lot but the yellow stuff was left over. Still love the color but was ready for a change. See

How big are the square for the wood walls? I’m just trying to get a perspective. I want to do that on a feature wall in my living room. Also, how thick and tall is the wood? Thanks!

    • Michelle Hinckley says

      October 16, 2014 at 5:03 pm

Inside of square is 20×20″. Trim is a 1×3 (I don’t know why they call it a 1×3 because the actual measurement is 1/2×2 1/2). Hope that helps! Michelle ๐Ÿ™‚
