Making over our bathroom with peel & stick wallpaper.

June 22, 2016 by Michelle Hinckley |

The main bathroom in our home has come a long way in the last 5 years.
When we initially walked through the house, which was a rental at the time, it looked like this…

When we got our hands on it we rearranged everything.  Rip the tub out, move the vanity here, move the wall there, flip the toilet to there…

Voila!

We had ourselves a beautiful bathroom.

Or so we thought.

A year later everything under the sink and inside the vanity began to corrode and rust.
Three professionals later, we discovered the tiniest hairline crack in the concrete counter top which allowed moisture to seep through ever so slowly.

We decided to have the concrete replaced with a quartz top instead.  While we were at this stage we also had it repainted gray.

Of course, I can’t leave any space alone for too long.  I had to fuss around with it and add another element.

This time,  wallpaper.

And not just any wallpaper. I’ve always loved the look of wallpaper but I have commitment issues.  Applying wallpaper is a major undertaking.  Taking it down is an even bigger job.  Not to mention walls are often time ruined afterwards.  Guess what?…I found a wallpaper for the commitment phobes like myself.  This paper is peel and stick.  You peel the backing off and apply it to the wall just like a giant sticker.  It’s called Jackalope by Walls Need Love and they claim the removal is even easier.  It’s supposed to come off by peeling back a corner and ripping it right off the wall…all in one piece.  Whaaaaat?

People.
This. Is. Life. Changing.

Can you imagine how many people would hang wallpaper if it wasn’t such a commitment?!
I could literally tear it down tomorrow in less than 5 minutes and put something else up (if I wanted to but why would I?).

I’m already thinking about what else I can wallpaper.  I’m considering my boys dressers next!

The other thing I’m seriously tempted to play with…

WNL

Their Easy Stripe Adhesive Tape.  You may remember when we painted stripes on our walls in Arizona a few years ago?

2

Where was this Easy Stripe tape when we were doing this for three weeks?  It’s just a roll of tape that comes in several colors and widths that you tape and leave on your walls or furniture.
And the cool thing about it…just pull it off when you’re ready to change up your walls. Instant stripes with no paint.

I even gushed about them on Studio 5:

Do you think you’d have any issues with this wallpaper staying up in a bathroom? Considering the humidity from showers? It has kept me from trying this in a bathroom.

I’ve had it up for over a month now and to my delight it has stayed up. Not even a corner has peeled away and there is lots of humidity and steam that comes off our shower. So far, so great!

Do you need “level 5” drywall to use this? Or home’s walls are “light orange peel” texture. Wondering if these papers work on that.

That’s a good question. I would contact Walls Need Love about that. Link is in post.
