Life in our neck of the woods.

January 13, 2016 by Michelle Hinckley |

You know when you get really jazzed about something…you plan for weeks, set goals, get really pumped about it…then life let’s you know it has a different agenda.
Story of my life for the past 4 weeks now.
Nothing has gone according to plan.
Nothing.
New year’s resolutions? What New year’s resolutions?
I have literally been in bed with the flu, then a sinus infection and now a kidney stone.
It’s been one of those kind of winters.

As I labor through this kidney stone I been having a lot of bed parties between contractions with this little one.

I’ve also been able to eavesdrop from my bed on a lot of interesting conversations coming from the other rooms in our house.

My kiddos have been on a steady diet of nachos while I’ve been in bed.

Last night the littlest man said as they were microwaving, “Mom says you shouldn’t stand in front of the micwo-wave but I always do and nothing ever pops out.”

Then the middle little man replied, “Yeah but stuff you can’t see gets on your face and makes you sick.”

Good entertainment for sure.

As a P.S. here’s the latest score I picked up right before Christmas.

$5.00 school chalkboard with a message reminder for my tween man who’s entering that self-conscious-cool stage, much to my chagrin.

Back to our regularly scheduled program soon.

(Any tips on laboring through a kidney stone are welcome).

You poor thing. I can’t offer any advice on a kidney stone. Sorry.
I just hope you feel better soon.

I’ve never had kidney stones so I cannot personally confirm this method, but my mom swears by it (and she gets them somewhat regularly) – stand up straight on a hard floor, stand on your toes, and then slam your heels down as hard as you can. If you can get out of bed long enough to do it, it’s worth a shot!

Hope you’re better by now but here are some tips from someone who has had several bad ones. One even had to be fetched in the hospital. From now on drink at least 8 glasses of liquid a day. I read about some studies that say lemonade helps dissolve and green tea causes them to form rounded surfaces. So I drink a lot of green tea. Hope you are better, I know it is worse than having a baby isn’t it?!
