Keeping your carpets Bissell clean + Bissell Upright giveaway.

April 10, 2015 by Michelle Hinckley |

Whenever we tackle a new project the whole house goes to crap.  100% of the time we inevitably leave a trail of mess and disaster in our wake.  Case in point our plank wall project that we posted about yesterday.

IMG_6387

With the magic of before and after’s it may look like we’ve got everything under control but with 4 men and myself living in a construction zone it’s anything but organized and our carpets really take a hit.  While I was painting, my youngest stepped in the paint pan and my oldest threw a ball at the wet wall. Despite our efforts to take precautionary measures at protecting the house and carpets, a mess is inevitable.

Our carpets, pre-project, were worn with the normal wear and tear of family living but painting made an even bigger mess even with a tarp laid down.

IMG_6395

Every single stair had some kind of stain on it.

Introducing my BISSELL ProHeat 2X® Premier 47A23 Upright Deep Cleaner.  You may remember I sang it’s praises during the holidays when I spilled a red berry smoothie all over my vintage Persian rug.  It saved my rug (and my sanity).

IMG_5034-1024x997

Luckily it has a hand tool which is perfect for stairs, upholstery and tight smaller spaces.  This time I volunteered to try the BISSELL Professional Deep Cleaning with Febreze® Formula on our carpets.

IMG_0744

You just mix the formula with warm water in your machine per the instructions then spray, scrub and suck.

IMG_6432

Check out all the filth it sucked up with just one pass.  You see the formula going to work immediately when you spray it on and it smells great.  Plus it has Scotchgard which protects your carpets from future stains.

IMG_6435

This little hand tool came in real handy when my son got sick in the car on the way back home from a road trip.  Ugh.  I would have had to pay $150.+ to have an auto detailer professionally clean the car upholstery otherwise.  Fortunately, my Bissell tackled it and any lingering odors.

These are our master bedroom carpets.  I’m amazed at the amount of dirt this gray carpet shows.

IMG_6420

We don’t wear shoes in our home or eat anywhere but the kitchen…this is what normal daily wear and tear looks like.

BISSELL Professional Deep Cleaning with Febreze® Formula to the rescue!  My mom always said, “You want a job done right then do it yourself.”

IMG_6480

You know how every house has it’s own unique smell?  Your carpets are the main source of where that smell lives.  Check out the amount of grime this baby pulled out of our carpets.

IMG_6489

Using BISSELL Professional Deep Cleaning with Febreze® Formula neutralizes those odors and brings freshness to your home.

DSC_4905

Now your carpets will accentuate the room and smell as fresh as the rest of the decor.

Now for some exciting news.  Bissell will be giving away one Deep Clean Lift-Off machine and BISSELL Professional Deep Cleaning with Febreze® Formula.

gIVEAWAY TAG

To enter, go check out Bissell’s site here.  Then come back and leave a comment on this post letting us know your best spring cleaning tip or how you’d use a Bissell machine.  (Please leave your email address with your comment for us to contact you in case you win).  Giveaway closes May 1st.

Good luck!

Thanks Leslie. It’s been so long I don’t remember. I has a waffle pattern to it and very low pile. I hate seeing vacuum lines but low pile shows more dirt. 🙁 Thanks girl!

This would be perfect to get all of the pet dander and odor out of my carpets. Whoever said labradoodles didn’t shed and were hypoallergenic never met mine!

With kids human or hairy, there is always mud somewhere in my house I am trying to clean-up. A quarterly steam clean is the best way to keep things looking their best. And when you have a bissell at home, when something comes up in between (which it always does), it is easy to spot treat.

Wow, this looks great. I would of course use it to clean the carpets but I have a new baby and the ability to clean the car is what really has me interested!

I have been dying for one of these ever since we got our precious pup Bernie. I have rented a similar machine from Petco to get his smells out of all of my carpets and I would really like to own my own so I can go crazy with cleaning the carpets and stairs as much as I want.

We don’t have wall to wall carpets in our house, but we could certainly use one of these for our area rugs and upholstery! My car looks like we live in it, so she could certainly use some serious Bissell loving. Thanks for the chance to win!!

My favorite spring cleaning tip is stripping the beds early one morning, putting everything in the wash and the putting it out on the line to dry in the breeze and sunshine. I also sprinkle baking soda on the mattress and let it sit during the day. A quick vacuum at the end of the day before remaking the bed and everything is fresh and clean.

Oh my goodness, we’ve been saving up for new carpet, but in the meantime, our previous owners left a stained mess of a carpet and when it gets slightly humid out, the room just reeks! Anything to get the smell out would be so amazing! We do use the bissell pet spot cleaner on any new spots (pet or not!) and it works like magic!

  16. Megan says

    April 10, 2015 at 2:15 pm

Our work has one of these and it is awesome! I just moved into an apartment with a funky smell so this would be a life saver!

The carpet in our house is so light that we should be having them cleaned regularly. Sometimes it’s just not in the budget. This looks like a good, long term budget friendly option!

Wow, what a great giveaway. I would love to try out the Bissell carpet cleaners. We’re in the middle of a bathroom reno and our poor carpeted basement stairs are a mess from the workers tromping up and down them. I so need to give this Bissell a go!

With 2 small kids 1 small dog and a great dane puppy my wall to wall carpeting, 2 flights of stairs, and countless rugs could definitely use a Bissell. I’ve been dying to get one of these. Whenever I’m doing a home project, I rent a steam cleaner from the grocery store, but it is such a hassle, and I’d love to use it more often (and on my stairs!!! That attachment is genius).

spring cleaning tip – 2 small ones. Use a dryer sheet and rub it along your base boards. It will stop them from attracting dust. also, I swear by having a rug outside of every door, and right inside the door as well. It traps a lot of the dirt before it gets further into my house.

We too just did some renovating in our home. We removed our tile in our dining room and kitchen and put in real hardwood floors. I’ve been scrubbing down walls and cupboards and EVERYTHING!!! I want to cry it is so much work. My carpets took a huge hit with all the dust and so as soon as I get my carpets tacked back down I will have to wash my carpets! The Bissell looks like just what I need to have clean beautiful carpets again! By the way, I love your plank walls!

    April 10, 2015 at 4:29 pm

An old cat, a 4 year old, and a 14 year old. I could use one. Between my car, my couchs, and the carpet I just want to rip out the carpet and lay down hardwood. Too bad I can’t do that in my car… My favorite spring cleaning tip is from my Great Aunt, time consuming but really works for old windows. I mix bleach and spic n span in water and wash my windows, then I rinse with vinegar water and dry with flylady cloths. It really makes those old windows sparkle. One day I will just replace the windows, but until then..

I don’t really have any spring cleaning tips, but man I could use this! Our carpet is so bad, that I lay down a comforter on it formy daughter to play on. When a new stain gets on our carpet, we just shrug, because it’s already so far gone. New flooring is not in our budget, so it would be nice to revive this carpet.

  60. Colleen says

    April 10, 2015 at 6:35 pm

Best spring cleaning (and year-round, really) tip is to leave the dog outside! Or at least limit number of in/outs. We’re lucky enough that our dog is happy outside, but now when I want to hang out with her I go outside in the day instead of bringing her in over and over again, and just bring her in when I’m ready to keep her in for a long time. Cuts down on dirty floors and she sheds outside instead, way better.

I would use the Bissell carpet cleaner to clean my dining room and living room carpets and the carpets on my stairs, they are the worst, so dirty because everything is tracked in and then they bring it right upstairs via the carpeted stairs 🙁

With 4 kids, 2 adults and 2 dogs, our carpets take a beating…this would be the best ever…my best tip is to involve the family in the cleaning and have fun with it. The more who are involved, the better. Each of our kids has their own set of chores each week that includes cleaning bathrooms (their own), doing their own laundry, we range from 19 down to 12, dishes, vacuuming and cleaning their own rooms. This helps to cut down on the grime, but we still need a deep clean every once in a while.

    We have had a few Bissell carpet cleaners over the years – and we have loved them – to the point of killing our current one which just died on us after MANY years of use – just as we were about to clean the whole house’s carpeting and the sofas and love seats. After a long and brutal Connecticut winter, two kids, many friends and 1 dog and 2 guinea pigs our carpets are in ROUGH shape and desperately need some TLC!!! =}

My tip would be …..I take two plastic clothes hampers with wheels and put a xlarge garbage bag is each one.

One is for things we no longer need and will donate
    The other is for garbage

I move them room to room with me as I spring clean!

With 3 labs, 3 kids, and a muddy backard after all this rain….and getting snow flurries tonight……ugh. Our floors and carpets are…..dirty!

I would use this carpet cleaner to clean my horribly dirty carpet as there are 3 pets, 3 adults and 2 children in the house. In addition, there are kids always coming in and out with muddy feet during the wet season. This Bissell could be a blessing to assist me in getting my spring cleaning done and have freshly cleaned carpets after a long winter.

I don’t have a LOT of carpets in my home but unfortunately, the ones I do have are getting quite dirty. We also don’t walk around with our shoes on or eat all over…so I’m not sure how they get so grimy but they do!

My favorite “spring cleaning” tip is opening up the windows and getting all that old air out of the house. Cleaning the air, I guess.
I would use this on my carpet in the bedroom in particular, and to keep my new living rug clean.

I would love one of the Bissell steam cleaners. I try not to use too many chemicals in our home, this would be perfect! But I would definitely love to win the carpet cleaner too! I have a pretty good chemical free ‘recipe’ I’ve used with a borrowed carpet cleaner before.

  237. Maria B. says

    April 29, 2015 at 5:40 pm

Yes! I would love to have this to keep my carpets clean without having to hire someone! I have seen how much muck can collect in carpeting even when we take our shoes off as soon as we come into the house! We installed wood floors in the main living areas but love our carpets in the bedrooms and keeping them clean is a priority.

P.S. Love your site and find much inspiration. Keep it up!

Ahhh! What a great giveaway!! I have so many uses for this! I just bought a large area rug and its lighter in color and ive been paranoid about keeping it clean and how I’m going to clean I when the time comes! We also put new carpet in our home similar to yours and now after seeing that murky water im curious about what could be lurking in ours! Annnnd my husband just got a job offer yesterday but it will require us to move to a new city so we might have to rent for a while so being able to clean our own carpets before we move into a rental place would be so nice!!

My oldest son has the worst allergies- living in the south we live with a greenish/yellow haze for 2-3 weeks straight–that stuff gets in our house whether we like it or not. This would be amazing to do a serious deep clean of all our carpets/rugs. Thanks so much for offering!!
