This summer has been full of new experiences, learning and connecting through travel.
Exploring these ancient cliff dwellings has always been on my bucket list.
The Mr’s family booked their annual family reunion in Durango, Colorado this year and on the itinerary was Mesa Verde.
Believe me when I say, the experience was F-A-S-C-I-N-A-T-I-N-G.
We drove to several outlook spots above the cliffs. Someone had to point out the dwellings across the ravine for us to actually see them.
When you get closer they open up in to a little village carved from the stone cliffs.
We started the Balcony House tour by climbing a steep 32 foot ladder.
From there we toured a cliff dwelling.
A series of several ladders…
and several tight squeezes later…
and we made it out all in one piece.
We also explored Cliff Palace which took our breath away.
Mind blowing.

I live in Farmington, NM, just south of Durango. I think Mesa Verde is fascinating as well! My family had long discussions over what the circumstances may have been to cause the Ancestral Pueblo to leave over a short time to never return. Glad your family got to enjoy the park. Durango is a beautiful place as well!

It IS such a wonderful place. Never knew there was so much to see and do so close to Durango. There were so many theories as to why they left. Very interesting.

Mesa Verde is on our bucket list too! How did your boys like it, and do you think a 7 or 8 year old would enjoy (or too young)? Thanks!
Michelle Hinckley says
They loved it. My 5 and 8 year old were dazzled by everything. I wanted to read every sign and historical marker but they lost patience for that…the was the only hindrance.
