DIY Dreaming…

April 7, 2011 by Michelle Hinckley |

Thursday mornings means my favorite estate salers post pics of their upcoming Saturday sales. In fact, The Girls Estate Sales have become so big here in Tucson they recently opened up their own store. For me, I go in to dream land and fantasize about all the fun DIY projects I’d do with other people’s junk. (Did that sound a bit creepy to you too?)

With a move on the horizon it’s torture to even look knowing I need to be de-junking, not collecting. Oh well, I can’t help myself.

Here are some of the fun things I’m spying…

New upholstery and maybe even paint the wood (or not) and this would be a gorgeous settee.

I spy some gorgeous, gold, bamboo nesting tables to the left of this sofa.

THAT MIRROR! Enough said.

I’ll take those milk glass pieces hiding amongst the kitchen ware.

Blogland is buzzing with those beautiful wood secretaries. A hit of paint would do the trick.

I’m loving those three bamboo nesting tables. I’m really tempted to go pick them up and hide them in my garage. The Mr. wouldn’t notice would he?

I WANT THESE MATCHING BEDS! They would be perfect with a coat of bright yellow or muted blue for my boys room. Check this out… (found on Walls Blog).

Bland dresser now. Give it a sand, some primer and paint…voila!

More milk glass treasures.

That cain chair with orange cushion is screamin for some TLC!

So fun! The mirror is amazing and I have a serious addiction to milk glass! There’s something so crisp, clean, and charming about it all at the same time!

AWESOME finds!! Can you give us estate sale novices an idea how to find quality it estate sales in our areas? Internet searches don’t produce much, it seems.

Hope you’re able to walk away with a few of these pieces!

That is not creepy at all! When I’m at other people’s homes and I get bored I zone out and plan how I would decorate or renovate their house if it was mine. Love those finds! Takes amazing will power not to cave!

Wow! So many fabulous things in one place no wonder they need their own store! I love all your selections especially the settee (great potential), the twin beds (how gorgeous!) and the dresser (so much storage and such beautiful clean lines). Great finds! I wish there are stores like this here.

I’ve been reading your blog for over a year now, one of those unfortunate “readers” that hardly comment but just consume! But I couldn’t keep my mouth shut today when I saw those beds. Before I read your caption, I thought to myself those would be perfect for her boys. I even thought to incorporate some yellow in those suckers! Its scary just how well (not in a creepy way) I “know” you. Anyway, don’t be tempted!!!More will come your way. hope you are well.

I love that mirror! And my grandparents had that chair in the last picture. Not the cane one, sadly, the folding lawn chair. That exact pattern.

Also, I’m with Lisa, I think about redecorating my friends’ houses (and occasionally creepily blog about it. oops.)

We come from the same planet lady! I saw this on their site yesterday and died when I saw the pics! Dom and I have been religiously going to the girls for a while now…to the point that some of the ladies there bring candy for Vincente.

I JUST bought the same caned chair at a local thrift store for $10! It has been sitting in my garage while I dream of what to do with it and where it will land in my house. As your blog is one of my favorite places to go for inspiration, I would LOVE to hear what you would do? Any ideas to pass along…?
