DIY Chore List Board.

October 8, 2012 by Michelle Hinckley |

My boys wake up between 6-6:30am…much too early for my liking.
We can put them to bed at 7pm or 11pm and they’d still get up between 6-6:30am.
Even though we have almost two hours to kill before school starts we still seem to have real issues getting our motor runnin’ in the morning.  If there’s one thing that drives me nuts (besides boys waking up too early in the morning) it’s scrambling to get out the door in a panic.
I made up a daily morning list for my oldest boy in Excel (super easy, took me less than 5 minutes).
So far it’s been working out really well.
If he gets all the boxes checked at the end of the week he gets a reward such as a treat at our favorite bakery, extra video game time, etc.
If I forget to print a new checklist Sunday evening, it seems next to impossible to print a new one out amongst the Monday morning chaos going on with three boys.
Here’s what I did to solve that:

Yep, that’s right, just $1.00 at the thrift store.
Then I put the chore list in the frame and behind the glass.
You can’t tell in this picture but I spray painted the frame gray to match the room’s gray accents.

Did you know that in addition to a white board, you can also use dry erase markers on glass and mirrors?

These Expo markers are really handy because the eraser is right on the back of the marker holder.

Teaches responsibility and no more scrambling to print a new list each week.

I’ve been writing notes on the mirror with a white-board marker since heck was a pup! Your idea of a checklist behind glass is excellent. I do NOT miss those everybody-up-early-for-school days.

Love it! I also like the idea of giving them something other than Minecraft to do when they wake up early!
