Courtyard before and after.

March 17, 2011 by Michelle Hinckley |

We have this small little courtyard in the front of our house.
It’s always just been filled with rocks.
In three years the only thing we’ve ever done in there is pull the weeds.

Several months ago I brought home some pavers (from Lowe’s) and surprised my husband with his new project.

Three months later and look what he did.
(Thank you, Love!)

Last fall I picked up these planters, chairs and pillows at Target for 75% off when they were closing out the summer seasonal items.

I did however, pay full price for this cutie.

An umbrella, some lemonade and big cushy ottoman for my swollen feet would make this little space perfect.

Cue Spring!

What a great way to make an used space into someplace special. I’m sure you’ll get a lot of use out of this area.

Looks great!!! I did my own little paver patio project last spring, so I know that it can be a bit of work, but so worth it 🙂

Great idea! Showing the link to my husband tonight. The weather in St. Louis is finally ‘normal’ enough to work outside and I think this is the perfect project! What size pavers did you use?!

I looks so great! I swear, there have been so many times that I have been thinking about a project for my house and BOOM!- it shows up here! I have a little backyard that this project would be perfect for. If you have time, could you share a few more details about how the hubby did it? Thanks so much!

What an awesome idea to add pavers! It makes such a huge difference. I grew up in New Mexico and these pictures make me miss my arid home — I’m in the Bay Area now where it is wet and dreary.

We SOOOOO need to do that! We have just an awful space in our front yard and it would look so much better with pretty pavers and pebbles like you’ve done! I plan on showing my husband this and say, “THIS is what I want for our anniversary!” (it’s April 8th) : )

This looks awesome! I’ve got a little patio in the front of the house that I’d love to do this for. Sorry for the amateur questions but is it as simple as placing the pavers on the ground and filling the space in between with little rocks? Is there anything adhering the pavers to the ground?

How have those stones held up through the seasons? Have you found that they’ve settled or that the rocks between them have washed away a bit?

I love the courtyard with the stones and the pavers — do you have any tips on how to make such a courtyard? E.g., is it hard to lever the stones and pavers? Thanks!
