Keeping the house clean at all times in case someone decides to drop by for a showing is tough. The most difficult things to keep clean are the stainless steal appliances. Seriously! Clean ’em and not more than 30 minutes later they’re showing everyone’s finger prints. Retro, colorful appliances are not only easy to keep looking clean, they’re also easy to fix with sites like PartSelect available.
I’m strongly considering something other than stainless steel for my next home.

I love the pop of color but stainless steel would look best with our black granite countertops.

I am in love with that pink retro fridge!

Those colorful ranges look great, I’ve never seen them before. Thanks for sharing! I have always liked that pic of the sea glass blue kitchen. So….how is the table coming along?

LOVE these photos! I’ve been trying to decide how to redecorate my kitchen and these make me want to run home and start ripping everything out. Thanks for the inspiration!

I love the colorful Viking options you showed in picture one, but I think I’d combine them with a more subdued hood (probably stainless steel). I completely agree though about the finger prints…they drive me insane!

It is so funny to see that pink kitchen. I had pink appliances in my first home in the 50’s. Hugs, Marty

ummm I love this post! In the 20 seconds it took to read it, I’m already convinced I want COLORED appliances! You’re so right about fingerprints on stainless steel… they’ve become the norm and I’m ready for a new trend =)

We had a retro turqoise General Electric (it was written in that cool 50s script)oven in our last house and I loved it! The rest of our appliances were stainless steel and you’re right about them being a pain to keep the fingerprints off. I’m feeling for you with showing your house and having a new baby– I hope it (the house) goes quickly!

I love the blue stove & hood in the first picture! It reminds me of the retro stoves I always see in awesome antique stores.

When we were selling our house I refused to cook on the stove top so I wouldn’t have to clean it – I froze 10 meals before the house went up for sale, we ate lots of sandwiches, and ate out a ton.

Oooh! I want me some turquoise appliances. Maybe I’d actually LIKE cooking!

I love all the color but I’m afraid I would tire of them before they actually wore out. Just a tip for keeping stainless clean. Wax them with automotive wax. All those finger prints and wipe marks won’t show up.

Totally in love with that white kitchen with aqua accents. Do you know where that photo came from? I don’t mean to sound like the blog police — image sourcing would just be super helpful if you have the original link! 🙂

I would do a fun pop color or a wooden panel to hide or go with the rest of the kitchen,

I disagree with having colored appliances. While it would be fun for a while I think once a certain color goes out of style (like the trendy aqua these days) you are stuck with super expensive appliances. Plus, it really puts you in a very small resale catagory. Not everyone will even consider a house that they would need to buy all new appliances for if they purchase the house. Stainless Steel is timeless. You can buy the fingerprintless kind.

I agree TOTALLY with you about the stainless! I am done with it…next time I’d either go black or white, or the custom ones that match the cabinets. A pop of color would be awesome but I know I’d get sick of it eventually and want to change it. Good Luck with selling the house 🙂

I always cringe when on the home shows people cry over brand new, white appliances. I wonder how many perfectly good appliances are thrown out so they can have stainless steel. What will be the next “must have” after stainless steel gets old. I’m sure it’s got a good while yet, but it bugs me how bothered people get by anything other than ss. I like the idea of painting old appliances a funky color like these.

I love my bisque appliances because they blend so nicely with the antique white cabinets in my small condo kitchen. With no windows it looks so much brighter with all bisque/antique finishes. Fingerprints don’t show up on my appliances at all!

I love colored appliances in theory but I am not sure if I will love them one year down the road! Anyway, I adore all your inspiration pictures!

I used to work for a design house that also a co-own enterprise of AGA, the English stoves. I love them, I love the color, how unique and different they where, and the ease of use (we had a gourmet to do training, etc). I say try the color.

I think I would get sick of a colored appliance before it died. Would hate to have to work around it for years.

I also have and love stainless steel appliances. Since I am working for a producer of household appliances, I was fortunate to get helpful hints for the best cleaning methods and products. Since that are German products, it would’t help you if I name them.
Anyhow, as a family with three children I would recommend white appliances since colourful appliances are a very trendy subject that one can easiyl get tired of.
Plus I like the fresh, clean look of white appliances.
A lot of appliances manufacturers offer complete white ranges.
I am curious to find out later what you will decide on :-).

We have stainless steel and are also selling our house. I’ve been using WD 40 to clean them and it is amazing! I think it repels finger prints!

totally have to agree that stainless steel is a pain in the rump to keep clean! What’s funny is that the Inspired Room just did a post on secrets to keeping stainless steel clean (http://theinspiredroom.net/2011/05/16/how-to-clean-stainless-steel-appliances-my-favorite-tip/)
I’m totally loving all of the colored appliances though… I really might consider that for my next kitchen!

Get your pop of color from decorative accessories in your kitchen, not your appliances. You can change these out whenever you want a change, without costing you to much money.

I so love the pink kitchen. I’ve been wanting to have a perfect kitchen the same as with yours. I’m wondering what could be the color of your furnace.
