Getting the house Christmas-ified has awakened the decorating beast inside me this past month.
The plan this year was to set up the Christmas tree right in front of the huge picture window in the living room. It looked great in my mind before we set it up. Then when we actually got it up, it threw the whole feng-shui off for the entire room. I lived with it for as long as I could (3 days) then I told the Mr. it had to be moved. You want to see a man’s eyes roll so big they actually fall out of his head and roll down the street tell him the Christmas tree has to be moved to another spot in the room. It took another 3 days of pleading and begging before he gave in. I’ll spare you all the details but let’s just say it was an engineering feet to slide a fully lit and decorated tree 6 feet to the right. The Mr. was totally justified in that eye roll.
The tree looks great but it’s new spot made the chaise lounge look like a big gray elephant hanging out in the middle of the room. So to the basement it went and in came a pair of vintage Milo Baughman-esque chrome lounge chairs. Cue harps. Holy moly can we just have a moment of silence for these chairs. I have been eyeing them for MONTHS at a local mid century furniture store called the Green Ant.
I’ve been back to visit them 5 times.
I sat in them for an embarrassing amount of time in the store.
After dreaming about them forever they finally came home with me.
Similar chairs go for some serious cash on 1st Dibs.
(From left top going clockwise…1, 2, 3 , 4.)
I hit the lottery because I in no way paid even a fraction of what those babies are selling for.
I don’t love the camel velvet but it’s growing on me. They’re in great condition for being vintage so it will buy me some time until I’m ready to have them reupholstered.
Here’s how the rest of the living room has shaped up…

Your home is simply beautiful! Those lounge chairs are gorgeous! Just wondering, how much your paid for them?

I love the lamp (white next to the couch)! Where did you find that beauty?!?

School House Electric. Hands down my most favorite store ever!

I loved the Green Ant when I lived there. I used to go there all the time when I lived there in the late 90’s to 2002. There were quite a few other little gems in the area where I used to shop. One was a salvage yard in the middle of SLC that was really hidden. Lots of other places too.
I like the camel color of the chairs actually. It’s a soft contrast!

I’d love to have your list of favorite SLC stores. Where do you live now?

I’m not sure if these places are still around but I loved Elemente and Home again. Also Hip and Humble. That opened when I lived in Sugar house but then moved to 9th and 9th I think. There were also a few places right across the street from Home Again when it was in Sugarhouse, closer to Barnes and Noble. Home again’s prices were all over the place though… I hear that Now & Again is pretty good. I used to go to some dusty places on State street but the end closer to downtown. I don’t remember the names but one was totally vintage, eclectic furniture which was right next to a vintage clothing store and other stuff. George’s salvage was the best! But then again I prefer digging around lots of junk and didn’t mind tight spaces. Also, Capital city antiques is good. High end but a mix of reasonably priced antiques as well. I’m out east now. I’m hoping to visit Salt lake in Spring!

Yay! I’ve visited a lot of the those places but the other ones I can’t wait to visit. Thanks for your list Lyn!

It looks great, Michelle. Those chairs are sa-weet!
Michelle Hinckley says
Thanks girl! Send some of that AZ sun our way.

Love the chairs. They would have a happy home in Texas.

Those chairs are amazing! Your tree looks great! I had to comment because I slid my fully assembled, lit and decorated tree across the room one day after I did because I thought it might look better. I did it all by myself and there were no casualties! Just slid a slider disc thingy under each leg and slowly pulled it over. Determination I tell ya!
Michelle Hinckley says
You go girl! Sometimes a girl has just got to roll up her sleeves and move a tree. (Next time I’ll spare the rolling eyed husband). 🙂

what a find! and a pair to boot…that never happens! i love how the camel warms up the black and white in the room.
Michelle Hinckley says
I know, right!? Thanks for your comment Emily.

Hi just wondering where the throw pillows on the couch are from! Thanks!
Michelle Hinckley says
They came from a few places. The white furry one: Dot and Bo. The black dots and stripe pillow: Joss and Main, middle pillow: Ikea. Large right pillow: Etsy store that closed down. Hope that helps!

I love the chairs and the camel velvet is a great neutral that ties into your warm wood accents – no need to reupholster!

I would have to agree, those chairs are great as is! They add that something special to your living room! Don’t change them, at least not yet 🙂

I love your home!! Love those stockings! May ask where you got them??
Michelle Hinckley says
Thanks so much. My mom and I actually made the stockings…well I mostly observed. 🙂

When you first put up the happy holidays vinyl sticker I thought it was going up on your big picture window. Next year you should! It would look awesome!
Michelle Hinckley says
Great idea!!! Thanks!
