Boys Room Makeover

March 27, 2009 by Michelle Hinckley |

Not much has been happening on the decorating homefront but I’m really getting ancy to start a new home project. The boys room is up next (yep, we’ve decided they are gonna share a room). They want Spider Man or Star Wars…me, not so much. I figure we’ve both have to like it. Since Matani’s name means “wind” and Nash was named after pro windsurfer, Robby Naish…a nautical theme would fitting.

I saw these zinc letters at Anthropologie that I love. This picture does them no justice. They are big…25 inches high big. I thought I could put an “M” above one bed and an “N” above the other.

I’m also contemplating stripes (YES MORE STRIPES). This time same color stripe but contrasting flat and glossy paint. (Not sure where I pulled this picture from). I’m also looking for some nautical bedding. I saw some at Pottery Barn kids but it was too busy and not quite the right color palate.

It would be fun to find someone who does custom bedding (for really affordable…probably doesn’t exist). Any tips?

Welll depending on the fabric that you pick out- price wise, I can help you with the sewing… if its something you’d like to do.
Let me know I’d love to help.

instead of alternating flat/gloss, you can do the WHOLE wall in flat, then paint a clear gloss stripe of poly over the topto get the gloss finish you want. SHould save time rather than moving tape lines and alternating paint.

what about just crisp white bedding? or RL has a navy ticking stipe that’s cute with nautical pillows?

I don’t know anyone who does bedding, good luck with that.

Sounds like the new bedroom will be awesome!

so so ambitious! where do find the time? i know you do a little home business too! i feel like i am running like a chicken with my head cut off all the time and never have time to do the home decorating i want….gregg and i are still arguing over the style. he has decided he likes the more homey look and me not so much. i am much more of the clean crisp lines and clean cut look….i don’t see an easy compromise in the near future…needless to say we sit and discuss while our furniture continues to age and our walls are in such desperate need of paint!!!! YIKES!

I just did my son’s room and the nautical picture you have posted was my inspiration. Tommy Hilfiger has these great crap and lopster sheets right now. I am thinking of making a duvet out of the lobster sheets.

Check out the pictures of my son’s room and let me know what you think.

Michelle, hi! Nice design ideas you got there. I am planning to have my daughter’s room renovated. I’ve already contacted several contractors to do the remodeling. MN is our new home now. We just started moving some of our things two weeks ago and hopefully by the end of the month, we can finally settle in. Thank you so much for the inspiring room ideas. My wife loves the wall stripes. Thanks for sharing Michelle!
