For this week's furniture makeover I experimented with the faux bois technique...which is the imitation of painted wood grain.
When done correctly it can easily be mistaken for a printed paper. It's probably one of the easiest paint treatment/techniques I've done to date.
I started with this old wooden shelf. The Mr. removed back panel with a crowbar being careful not to crack or damage it.
I cleaned and primed the shelf and the back panel. Here's a shot of the products I used for
Steel desk makeover.
I'm always proud to show off my latest projects but today I'm busting-at-the-seams-excited to share this one with you!
This past summer I came across this Simmons steel waterfall desk rotting in to the ground.
You know me, I'm a sucker for all things steel and metal. So of course I drug it home.
Wear and tear doesn't really scare me but after I studied it closely I feared this may be a chuck-it project. (The Mr. slowly shaking his head at me didn't help matters). At one time someone
Painted mid century buffet – 3 looks.
I've been a painting fool trying to get my last pieces done before it gets too cold outside and I can no longer paint outdoors. It's been a race against the clock before the snow flies.
My latest pieces include these these cool octangular side tables that were originally an ugly brown (which unfortunately I got going too fast before snapping some before pics).
A quick sanding, a couple coats of Sherwin Williams Extreme Bond primer then 2 coats of Maxx Gloss Hermatite and boom. Ready for
Support small businesses this holiday season.
We've officially made it to our 1/2 year anniversary of owning The Old Flamingo. There have been up's and down's but the education about being a small business owner has been priceless. Flipping furniture and filling a store with great merchandise has been the easy (and fun) part.
It's like playing store but on an adult level.
The biggest hurdle yet has been something we didn't factor in to our business equation heavy enough...road construction. The road in front of our store has been
Painted Red Side Table.
Ever since we adopted The Old Flamingo our house has been a constant revolving door of new projects.
They grace our home briefly then are out the door to bring lovely to someone else's home.
My latest score was this three tiered side table.
It was in good shape and quality made but tired and worn.
Nothing like a fresh coat of paint to bring it back to life.
I first gave it a quick sand and also rubbed it with some Liquid Sander which takes the gloss and shine off making it easier for
DIY Hairpin Bench.
My latest trip to Habitat for Humanity led me to this huge wood plank. It was approx 9 feet long and 4 inches thick for $20. Score! My plan was to cut it in half, refinish and stain the wood, put hairpin legs on it and call it a day. After I drove around back and loaded it up I smushed the corner of my car on a sloping curb. Gah!
So much for a score.
The first thing we did was sand this baby down to raw wood using 80 grit sand paper and an electric sander.
Next we went back over it
