Today is the day.
Basement family room reveal day!
This project has been over 2 years in the making…
1 1/2 years of talking and dreaming, 1 year of construction, 4 major arguments, 2,358 gray hairs and 54 trips to Home Depot.
Regardless of the stress and headache, the basement is D-O-N-E and we are H-A-P-P-Y (and still married).
A brief revisit of where we started when we were still bright eyed and bushy tailed…
Enjoy…
For the shelves we used the same wood from Craft-Art that we used for the bathroom vanity.
Flooring: Wood Oak Faux Wood Tile, The Tile Shop
Wood shelving: Craft-Art
Paint: Walls: Pure White / Trim: Extra White Sherwin Williams
Wall Sconce Light Fixtures: School House Electric
Rug: Surya Fargo – Plush Rugs
Stay tuned tomorrow for a fancy-schmancy giveaway from Plush Rugs!!!
*I received tile, paint, the rug and some lighting to feature. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.*
Its looks fabulous and I absolutely love the faux wood tile floors!!!
Thanks Brittany! π
I love the floors so so much!!! xo Kristin
Thanks gal! We’re really enjoying it as well.
It looks beautiful! I’m sure you are fully enjoying this after all of your hard work. Those floors are just gorgeous!
I love it! Basements that are nice and functional are so nice- like a bonus. Where is that black chair in the corner from? I love it!
Isn’t that the cutest little chair. I found it at a consignment store for $60. I’m in love with it! Thanks gal!
Yay! I was waiting to see your reveal and I’m not disappointed! I love that you added some color with the pillows and little decorations. I’m still in love with the floor and plank wall! I’m glad your family loves it!

It looks great! And I love those monogram/initial pillows! Where are they from?
Thanks Zvezda! I actually sewed the pillows then took them to be monogrammed.
Wow! I love this space! I’ve gotta ask–are my eyes playing tricks on me?! I do believe that’s your sofa from your living room, no?
You saw right. We actually have 2 identical sofas like that. We just moved 1 of them down. π
Fabulous reveal! I have been waiting to see this! You have really inspired me to start with my failed DIY attempt with our basement makeover.
Looks awesome! That branch is gorgeous!! Where is it from?
Looks amazing. Did you do radiant heating under the tile? That’s my only hang up about tile in the basement.
No dang it! That is my only regret. Argh!
It looks amazing! I LOVE the floors, and I never would have guessed from the pictures that they weren’t actual wood! They’re so beautiful and the herringbone pattern is totally classic and chic.
Sa-weet! Glad to hear that. I was worried it would look like a faux knock-off but I’m really pleased with the result! Thanks for the feedback. π
beautiful space. love those built in shelves.
Congrats! Nothing like a truly completed project. It’s gorgeous! Where is the couch from?
I found the sofas years ago from a store that closed down in Tucson. Boo.
Michelle, did you buy the shelving pre-finished or did you do it yourself? I looked at the wood website and it’s a big hard to navigate. Thanks!
We finished them ourselves using the same technique used for the bathroom vanity: https://4men1lady.com/wood-counters/. You just tell them the size you’d like and they custom cut and send them to you. Hope that helps! π
LOVE all of it!! Its awesome! Makes me totally want a basement!! (I kinda new it would!)
Michelle LOVE IT. Where is the white slipcover chair from??
I had it custom made to fit the sofa and I LOVE IT! Thanks Kaley!
Love, love, love it!!
it turned out so gorgeous! and I love the flooring π
STUNNING! Love the pattern on the floor, love the colors! Everything looks awesome. Great job!
Wow! I love it! And that floor…so pretty!
It looks great! Just wondering how u attached the shelves to the wall? And what is the distance between each? Thanks!
Hi Krista,
We actually put the shelves in first then built the drywall up around it (from the bottom to the top). So the shelves are sitting on brackets and drywall which is disguised by the drywall. Hope that helps. π
Beautiful space! I really love your rug and I’m curious if you think it would work in a kitchen under a table? Thanks!
Tile in the kitchen is the perfect material!!!
Hi Michelle,
I’m actually considering buying the same rug that you have but using it under my kitchen table. I’m just wondering if you think it would be hard to vacuum or keep clean? Is it very thick? Thanks!
I LOVE the rug but not sure it would be the best under a table. It’s quite chunky which would be tricky with food getting caught between the loops. http://www.Plushrugs.com has a TON of options though. Hope that helps!
Hi I loveeee!!!!! the new room. Could you please tell me where did you find the fan? TIA
Walmart! Believe it or not! π
What an awesome transformation! I said it on IG and Ill say it again….#thosefloors! Great job:)
Gorgeous job! We’re nearly finished with our basement and it feels SO GOOD, doesn’t it? Where did you get that floor lamp sitting next to that gorgeous black chair (and why don’t I ever find anything like that for $60 at my consignment shop?). The one thing I’ve promised my husband is that he will get a big comfy reading chair, and that lamp looks like the perfect complement. Thanks.
I have been lucky lately. I found that lamp on clearance at Target for $19. I’ve discovered where they stash clearance items at Target and I always make a B-Line for that area first thing whenever I go there. Please share pics of your finished basement. It feels so good to have a space to spread out!!! Best!
I love the room! I have been looking for a clock for a while- and the one you have would be perfect. Where did you get it?
Thanks Val! The clock is from Pottery Barn. Best ~ Michelle
Your room is really gorgeous. Absolutely spot on!
M
Love the room so much! Is the plank wall faux or tongue and groove?
Thanks Crystal! It’s tongue and groove. π
Very nice. I love those floors!
I can’t believe no one has asked about that gorgeous ottoman on casters! Deits please!
Thanks Jeni. Yes, I do love that ottoman too! I found it on Joss and Main.
Everything looks great! I’ll bet the boys are loving it.
Hi Michelle…love the basement! Very nice in every way! I was able to find your ottoman….have you been happy with the quality? Thanks!
Yay! Glad you found it! I was a little skeptical being as it was a mass produced item but I’ve actually really liked it. π
I love this room !! I really like the floor and the shelves and the general atmosphere of this space. Well done !
Beautiful room! Loving the floor and styling!
Your basement looks GREAT! I absolutely love the tile floors-you would never know they were actually tile!
Question- where are you picture frames, on the shelves, from? I love the think fames! i am working on a gallery wall and in the process of collecting frames. Thanks!
Hmmm? The think frames? Not sure which you are referring to? π
Great room! Can you tell me what finish you selected on the Schoolhouse Electric lights?
I believe it’s natural brass with a black shade in this fixture: http://www.schoolhouseelectric.com/lighting/wall-sconce-fixtures/princeton-senior.html
How did you mount the shelves?
Michelle, I’m curious about how you trimmed the exterior corners of your tongue and groove. It’s that a special corner trim piece on either side of the fireplace? Or is it just two pieces of trim on either edge to form a corner? I’m considering this for an entry way, but haven’t figure out how to finish off the corner where the hallway meets the living room.
Hi Friend,
It’s two pieces of trim to form a corner. If you don’t do that the boards will jut out and look funny with not end piece. Does that make sense? Share pics of your project! π Hugs, Michelle
