A Challenge.

June 28, 2010 by Michelle Hinckley |

Last week this box arrived on my door step.

Inside, 4 gallons of Dutch Boy paint!
A little over a month ago Peter, a rep from Dutch Boy Paints, contacted with an opportunity to test their paint and write a review. (Thanks Peter).

How could I say no to that proposition?

Already they get an “A+” for great packaging of their paint and being ergonomically correct. Seriously, how many paint cans do you know that have a handle on the bottle?
And I know it’s silly to be in love with a twist off lid but for the amount of painting I do I am so over having paint splatter when I hammer the lid back on the can.

Apparently this stuff has got “Odor Elimination Technology”…whatever that means?
Perfect paint for the bathroom?
I’m just sayin.
Plus zero VOC’s…WORD.

Operation bathroom makeover is officially ON!

There it is…the bathroom…in all it’s glory.
This is going to be a tricky makeover.
The house is only 2 years old. Although the bathroom isn’t high glam it’s really not offensive.
I prefer to call it vanilla, builder, boring.
I don’t think sinking a ton of money in to the fixtures and such would be a wise investment as I don’t think I could get the money back out if I sold tomorrow.
So we’ll see how far a little lipstick and rouge will take me.
After I finish with this bathroom I’ll move on to the master bathroom.

Again, nothing exciting here but not really terrible either. Plain Jane.

Your bathroom has great bones. I can’t wait to see the redo. It’s amazing what a little paint and a few accessories do to really glam up a space. Hugs, Marty

Hi Michelle! Just wondering how you manage these fabulous projects with little boys running around? I’d happily spend all of my time painting and re-decorating but find it fairly impossible with the two “helpers” at my house! Love the new challenge and can’t wait to see what you come up with…

    Leah,
You’re right, projects feel practically impossible with two active boys. On the blog it looks like projects get done in a day…on the contrary they take weeks. I work during nap time and when boys go to bed. Plus, my hubby is always willing to help… sometimes willing to help…ok I have to bribe him to help.

I’m looking forward to seeing the transformation and anxious to see what you do. I think you already have some great things going in both those spaces!

Can’t wait to see what you whip up! We used Dutch Boy paints in our previous house and I loved the ease of packaging. Makes clean up so much easier!

I can’t wait to see what you do! I’ve used dutch boy before and I really liked it. Someone told me that they are owned by Sherwin Williams.

    What colors did you pick?

I feel the same way about our bathroom — too new to plop a bunch of money into, but needing a little character. Can’t wait!

You know, I may buy this paint just because of the packaging. I have never tried their paint before but I think I’m going to give them a try. Plus I can’t wait to see what you do. If someone can transform a place with justpaint, that will be you.

I have wondered about the ‘odor eliminating’ ability!? can’t wait to hear what you think!
however logically thinking if your house smells that bad that you need an odor eliminating paint chances are you probably wouldn’t be painting anyway? right? I’m just sayin’

So funny–I have my DB paint deck here now trying to decide on my 4 gallons and I also had planned on doing our bathrooms–which look almost identical to yours 🙂 I’m not feeling very inspired about mine yet so I can’t wait to see what you do.

I feel you! The bathroom in our new home is in pretty good condition, but is just a bit … blah! I’m sure I’ll gain inspiration from your project.
