3rd time’s a charm thanks to Natty by Design.

June 2, 2011 by Michelle Hinckley |

Remember this Craigslist table? It’s had quite a bit of face time on my blog. To make a long story short, my husband and I spent countless hours on it trying to work our limited, DIY magic.

Here is what it looked like after we had a go at it. It just had a rough, unfinished look to it. It ended up in much better condition than the before pictures but really not acceptable either.

After two failed attempts, Natalie from Natty By Design stepped in. She is also our newest sponsor and as a part of her sponsorship she proposed letting her work on it to see what she could do.

In a nutshell she sanded it, experimented with several different stains, then applied polyurethane. At my request she also lightened it up quite a bit. I cringe to think of all the hand sanding she did, especially on those legs. After she delivered it my husband and I stood there in awe, jaws on the floor, shocked at what a magnificent job she did. It looks like it came right off the Pottery Barn show room floor. And I don’t lie! (Well sometimes I do but I’m not now)!

The end result is a rich finished look. A huge difference in comparison to the end result we produced.

Sometimes you just have to know when you’re in over your head and call a professional to begin with. You want a job done right, Natalie is your gal. I call her the “Furniture Whisperer”. Paint or stain she does it all. Thank you Natalie for all your hard work, dealing with my wishy-washy ideas, and being such a professional. We love our table!

absolutely beautiful! We have an old ash table that was a gift from one of my husband’s clients. It is in similar condition to your ‘before’ – only all the leaves have dog chewed marks on them! I was thinking of working a little DIY magic on it…
Too bad Natty doesn’t live near me!

Found your blog today via Natty. She’s great. Loving all your posts, and especially the home tour. Funny thing is that I’d seen some of those photos on Pinterest, Houzz, and/or other blogs, but never knew where they came from until today. Gorgeous!

OMG wow!!! She did a seriously amazing job!!!!!!!! That takes some skill to refinish a table as beautifully as that. Most people just paint, but taking it down to the wood takes lots of time and patience… and skill!

And the table looks totally beautiful in your space!
