I had so much interest in the vintage metal ballot boxes I gave a quick makeover to that I decided to try something similar on some vintage wooden crate boxes.
I have several of these old wood crates sitting around, collecting dust.
Using some Frog Tape I simply color blocked out a simple diagonal line. I’ve been experimenting with a new type of paint called Maxx Gloss by DecoArt.
It’s a high gloss water-based paint which mimics the look of oil which I love so much.
It has a thinner viscosity and goes on quick and easy. The thing I love about it is it’s self-leveling so you don’t see your brush marks when it’s dry.
I didn’t use a primer because I was only painting a simply design.
Plus these boxes are so beat up and aged that a little distressing over time would just add to the character.
(Plus I was lazy).
I also painted my beloved first aid cross on another one.
My trick for getting a sharp paint line is to pull the tape off when the paint is still slightly tacky.
If you wait until it’s bone dry (especially having not used primer) the likelyhood of your paint peeling is higher.
I also put casters on the boxes to make them mobile.
Perfect for magazines, storage or toys!
30 minute diy project.

I’d throw some blankets in them or books for the toys – they’re so nice and simple and throwback! Love those 30 minute projects.
I’d say my most recent project was a little more than 30 minutes – probably took a few hours all in. We replaced and altered and painted a brand-new-to-us door! A happy green door. Now that’s fall lol. (sarc)
